Our Lips Are Sealed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Jackie – Voice at the end of the phone on August 16th, 2007

Here in Customer Service, we have just been reading of a man in the States who is suing a florist for £750,000 for blowing the lid on his affair. The company in question had sent a note to his home address thanking him for placing an order of a dozen red roses. His wife knew she hadn’t received them, so who had???? Now, whilst business is brisk at Arena Flowers, we’re not too sure of being able to pay out quite that much in damages so we are all refusing to say a word - just in case!

Rather more seriously, we never send anything to a physical address - we only ask for an address as part of the security check on card payments. And, when there are queries about orders, we are only able to discuss them with the person who placed the order. Indeed, there are a lot of confused people still wondering who sent them flowers as, if the purchaser doesn’t put their name on the message, we are not allowed by law, under the Data Protection Act, to reveal their name. People phone up and play guessing games…

Q: ‘Does the name start with A?’

CS: ‘I’m sorry I can’t say.’

Q: ‘Does the person live in London?’

CS: ‘I’m sorry I can’t say.’

Q: ‘When was the order placed?’

CS: ‘I’m sorry I can’t say.’

They soon give up. We always advise our customers their identity will not be revealed and they are always quite sure that the recipient will know immediately who sent the gifts. We can contact the sender to ask if their name may be revealed - but when they find that the object of their affections didn’t immediately guess their name, we suspect that the relationship is not looking good.

We had a woman ring the other day to ask who had sent the beautiful flowers and champagne with the message ‘A wonderful evening. We must do dinner again sometime soon!!!’. I asked if the message hadn’t narrowed it down at least a little to which she replied, ‘Well, no, not really.’ A girl with a great social life!

So, just to reassure all you budding Romeos and Juliets out there - our lips really are sealed!

  1. Ok so you don’t give the details away of the people who sent the flowers, what about the people who received the flowers?

I think I want to ask the girl mentioned in the last paragraph out on a date .. :)
