LEUCOSPERMUM or PINCUSSION PROTEA
Leucospermum, sometimes called pincushion protea are very strange looking flowers from South Africa. They have a rounded head of springy, firm hooks curling upright. They grow as big shrubby bushes, you can tell this from the thick, heavy stems each flower is supported by.
Pincussions are mostly found in office floral displays as they like heat and humidty, and are long lasting. The plant requires smoke from a fire to germinate their seed. They are available all year round, although their natural season is July to November.
