MUSCARI or GRAPE HYACINTHS
The common name is grape hyacinth, from the way their flowerhead resembles that of a hyacinth. The come in shades of blue including navy as well as lilac and white and are available in winter months, main season January to April.
They are native to Greece and the Middle East, but have been grown in the UK since 1576.
Grape hyacinths are related to hyacinths, and to lily of the valley. They are fairly well known as garden plants, but now they are also available as cut flowers and potted bulbs for indoors.
