PHLOX
The Latin via Greek for Phlox means "flame".
Despite their small size, Phlox make good cut atrractive flowers, they are a filler flowers for bouquets and similiar in shape to bouvardia, but a lot smaller. They are a native of North America and grown all year round. The jewel-like flowers grow in clusters at the top of the stems, and these bright colored blossoms include shades of red, purple, scarlet, yellow, and white, some with a flirty eye.
Monotone phloxes are available in white, pink, purple and mauve hues. Two tone phloxes are also available.
P.paniculata "Bright Eyes" (pink with a dark centre), "Rembrandt" and "Icecap" (white), and "Van Gogh (deep purple) are all popular.
Phlox are very thirsty flowers so keep the water topped up. Removing most of the foliage will help them last longer.
