ANEMONE

Anemone or windflower, means 'breath', from the Greek term anemone, meaning "wind" which probably refers to seed distribution or perhaps because the delicate stems and leaves sometimes appear to tremble in the wind.

A rich legendary history is associated with anemone. It is said that the goddess Flora was jealous of her husband's attentions towards the nymph Anemone and so transformed her into the wind flower and left her at the mercy of the North Wind. Anemone is also thought to have come from the blood of Adonis, and even the Romans considered it valuable in preventing fever. Often anemone is applied to bruises and freckles. In Chinese symbolism, the anemone is equated with death.
