Lily Care Guide
Lilies are large elegant flowers, but they can also be very messy flowers. They have a stamen which quite often stains clothing and skin, and can take a while to remove. The stamens easily fall of when you move your lilies so be sure to remove any that you can see right away. Take a piece of tissue and then with the tissue hold each stamen firmly at its base and tug gently.
Lilies are tall flowers and will need a suitable container in which to sit. You can chose from a selection of our vases to accompany your Lily bouquet which will appear in the checkout or can be found by clicking here, Arena Flowers Vases.
When you have found your vase, you then need to add fresh water. Do not use ice cold water, as it is best to use water at room temperature. You will find selotaped to the acqua packaging or to the side of the box some flower food that needs to be added to the water. This food contains nutrients that will prolong the life of your bouquet. Empty the sachet of plant food into the clean water.
Next you need to attend to your lilies. The Lilies will arrive in an acqua packaging or be carefully wrapped in celephone. The packaging will contain water which has provided them with refreshment on their journey. You will need remove the protective packaging and drain away the water. Remember to do this over a sink to avoid spillages.
Lay the flowers down on the side board or sink and cut about 2 inches off the stems, ensuring you make the incision at a 45-degree angle with a sharp knife. This is to remove a layer that has covered the tips of the flower stems which make it harder to drink the water. Place your flowers in water very soon after you have cut the stems, as the newly cut stems will begin to heal over out of water, and then will be less able to absorb the water when submerged. If you are a dab hand at floristry or are familiar with flowers then you can cut the string around the flowers and then reposition the lily bouquet to fit your vase.
Remember if you get any lily pollen on your clothing do not rub if off with your hands, as this rubs pollen deeper into the fabric. Use a toothbrush or a dry towel to brush off pollen.
Display your Oriental Lily in well-ventilated spot with bright, indirect sunlight, taking care to keep it away from air conditioners, heaters, and strong drafts. Remember to cut the stems and replace the water every two or three days.
Enjoy your flowers!
