Get those wedding flowers right and the rest will follow!Early Preparations for Your Wedding Flowers

Ideally you should allow 6-12 weeks advance notice for wedding flowers but we at Arena Flowers have been known to provide wedding flowers in as little as 48 hours! But, do bear in mind that during busy periods such as Valentine’s Day, Mothering Sunday and Christmas the availability of florists will be limited, so a premium may be required.

We recommend that any decisions regarding your wedding flowers should only be made once the wedding dress has been chosen as the style and colour scheme of your flowers should complement the wedding attire as well as reflect the personality of the bride and groom.

You don’t have to be Alan Titchmarsh to know which flowers you would like. Take a look at our bespoke wedding flowers where all the flowers we have incorporated into wedding arrangements are identified. If you have time while you are out shopping, a great way to become familiar with the different varieties of flowers is to visit your local market where you will find flowers on display clearly named and priced.

Guide to Seasonal Wedding Flowers

But don’t forget, some flowers can become much more expensive to source (and less ecologically-friendly) when ‘out of season’. Check out our 'ready reckoner' below to help you choose more economical, less environmentally damaging stems by the season they naturally grow...

From Flowers HQ to Your WeddingArrange a Free Consultation with Arena Weddings

If you are undecided whether you require Arena Flowers to provide your wedding flowers, a personal visit to Flowers HQ at a time when our florists are preparing flowers for other weddings can be arranged so that you can see the quality and sumptuousness of our work for yourself.

Before your visit, look through books and magazines for flowers, bouquets, venue decorations and table arrangements. Take with you pictures of wedding flowers you like. It is often much easier to show our florists what you like instead of trying to explain it.

Also try to take along pictures of your wedding dress and your bridesmaid dresses, and if you have fabric swatches then even better! Then, our florists can better recommend both the style and colour scheme of flowers that will fully compliment wedding attire.

If you haven't visited the ceremony or reception venue recently, you may want to take another look so that you can decide how many arrangements you'll need. Again, photographs will assist the florists in designing the right wedding flowers arrangements.

Don’t forget, some venues will provide their own flowers and may not wish to accommodate additional flower arrangements – so check with them first before you make any plans for venue flowers.

Take a look at our Wedding Flowers Checklist for inspiration and guidance on the types of flower arrangements available to you for your wedding.

Choosing Your Wedding Flowers

Selecting flowers that will hold up for the entire wedding day, particularly if you are taking pictures before the ceremony or outside, will ensure that they still look gorgeous when you walk down the aisle. You may wish to consider investing in a bouquet holder, which will keep your flowers hydrated with water.

Consider your gown and your stature before making selections. Don't let your bouquet overwhelm you. If you are petite, the weight of a large bouquet could become a problem during the ceremony. Additionally, if you’ve been desperately trying to slim for the big day, you don’t want all that hard work to be covered by a large, cascading bouquet!

The king of the (wedding) cake is the selection of flowers with special meanings. Most flowers have a specific meaning. For example, ivy means fidelity, friendship and marriage, violets signify modesty and hope, jasmine is for happiness and tulips depict enchantment.
