The Rainy Day Trust is the only charity which exists solely to help people who have worked in the UK’s home improvement and enhancement industry, which includes businesses such as; DIY Shops, Hardware Stores, Builders Merchants, Garden Centres, Cookshops, and all the manufacturers, distributors and retailers in the UK who supply them.

Sometimes not everything in life goes to plan. You may have an accident, problems with your health or maybe you’re struggling financially – all of which can take its toll on your quality of life and place a burden on you and your family. We at the Rainy Day Trust are here to help. We are your rainy day support for when things just aren’t going to plan.

On 9th December 2012 the Rainy Day Trust substantially enlarged it’s range of activity by merging with the Pottery and Glass Trades Benevolent Fund (PGTBF). President of the Rainy Day Trust, Philip Duncan, said: “This is a significant step for us. It increases our assets, thanks to the PGTBF’s reserves and investments. But it also increases our liabilities, taking on responsibility for PGTBF trustees – as of today, the number of beneficiaries receiving help from the Rainy Day Trust will rise by about 15%. This merger means that we can now extend assistance to more beneficiaries, and it also creates the opportunity for us to raise the profile of the Rainy Day Trust in the tableware and housewares market.” Today, with an estimated one million eligible current and past employees from the home improvement and enhancement industries, the charity is experiencing a steady and disturbing increase in applications for assistance from colleagues who have had their working lives tragically cut short due to the unforeseen diagnosis of debilitating diseases.

The Rainy Day Trust is run by a Board of Trustees representing retailers, suppliers, wholesalers, trade associations and the trade press.
