The annual Flower Show is held at The Pelham Suite in Cambridge Road. Flower arranging groups from around the area, and further afield exhibit beautiful flowers and hope to win awards for their displays, and several venues around the city, including the John Whitgift Academy host presentations from flower experts who are happy to share their knowledge and skill. Being primarily a fishing port, the city has few formal gardens and parks but nonetheless has its gems. The residents, schools and businesses take a real pride in their gardens and grounds, so much so that the town frequently wins Gold and Silver awards in the prestigious East Midlands in Bloom competition.
