Luton offers an abundance of public gardens and landscaped areas for the flower lover. Of all of these, it is probably Knebworth that is the most famous. Featuring 25 acres of garden dating back from the Edwardian and Victorian eras, Knebworth has a wonderful history. The gardens are continually being restored and rejuvenated and it was Sir Edward Lutyens who carried out the redesign of the gardens immediately outside of Knebworth House. A walk around the gardens is a great experience and includes the sunken lawn, a dinosaur trail, a walled garden, a maze, ornamental ponds, a herb and vegetable garden and wonderful flowers and plants all year round.
Another great place to visit in Luton is the formal gardens at Wrest Park. There is a fascinating and detailed history surrounding these gardens that dates back over a hundred years. Not only can you enjoy the wonderful blooms and lush trees and plants as you wander around the park; there is also a fabulous baroque pleasure pavilion, a wonderful selection of stone and bronze statues, a bath house and orangery and pleasant woodland walks. There are also many ponds and other water features to walk around and explore. In fact, with over 90 acres of gardens to explore you can really make a day of it at Wrest House and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this wonderful location.
