Nottingham’s flower is the Nottingham catchfly or Silene nutans. This hairy-leaved wildflower has pinky-white flowers from May to July and is so-called because it lures in insects and moths by throwing out a strong perfume in the evening. It was first discovered on the Nottingham Castle walls, though it’s no longer found there because the site was sadly destroyed by 19th century building work.
