Surrey’s county flower is the Cowslip, or Primula veris. A common sight in meadows, open woodland and roadsides in springtime, the small, bell-like yellow flowers of the cowslip are thought to be named after a dialect word for ‘cowpat’, as they’re said to grow in places where cows have ‘slupped’.
